DevOps Engineer - Christchurch

We are looking for an additional DevOps Engineer to join our busy team that is happy, opinionated (in the best way) growing, motivated and committed to delivering new things together.

In this role you will:

  • Help develop, enhance, and maintain our existing Infrastructure as code platform
  • Work closely with external Technology and platform partners to define and deliver new Infrastructure as Code components in the most efficient way
  • Contribute to the research and definition of our infrastructure roadmap to take full advantage of new and existing technologies such as containerisation, cloud platforms and service orientated architecture
  • Automate infrastructure, application deployment and configuration pipelines to production
  • Perform regular capacity planning, vulnerability management and participate as part of incident response teams

Work with the development team to:

  • Ensure systems running on the platform have good observability, monitoring and high availability
  • Ensure high levels of system reliability, security and availability
  • Design, create, enhance, and improve functionality within the products on the platform

What we’re looking for:

  • Excellent time and expectation management
  • Strong build, test, and deployment automation skills
  • An ability to write and update concise, accurate documentation for other developers and partners
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Data analysis skills

To be successful in your application you will need:

  • Amazon Web Services or equivalent cloud infrastructure experience such as Azure or Google Cloud Compute.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code e.g. Cloud Formation, CDK, Terraform and containerization technologies such as Docker
  • Linux operation and administration skills
  • Automation and scripting skills for infrastructure build and deployment
  • Proven ability to design secure systems and apply security best practices, including implementation and management of Web Application Firewalls (e.g., AWS WAF, Azure Front Door WAF, Cloudflare, or similar)
  • Experience with using modern Git based source control systems e.g. GitHub, Gitlab
  • Experience designing, building, and operating CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar
  • Monitoring & Observability experience including implementation of dashboards, logging, and alerting using tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, OpenSearch/ELK, Dynatrace, PagerDuty, or similar platforms

You will get bonus points for experience with:

  • PostgreSQL or similar relational database management systems
  • Java, .NET or similar development platforms
